Thrifted Fashion Showcase

As I'm getting ready to write this post I check my dashboard to see if any other bloggers are posting this time of morning being that it's 3 am & SURPRISE, SURPRISE there are quite a few that just posted within the past 30min. Soooo... I see I'm not the only one that is NOT sleep! lol

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending Thrifted Fashion Showcase at B & R Thrift Store. It was hosted by the lovely Keren & Kerrie
If you are not already following their blogs please be sure to check them out as they can make $5 look like a million bucks!!!! These (2) two ladies are definitely the "Queens of Thrifting"!!!!

 I will be the 1st to ADMIT that I don't have a clue about thrifting & can't thrift to save my LIFE!!!!! I need thrifting 101... so you already know I will be keeping these ladies nearby - I need them to school me on thrifting!!!! J

***WARNING: Picture Heavy***

This dress was priced just right for .99cent - I had to snag this pic from Virtuous Styls Facebook wall just so y'all can see the detail on the back of the dress

What I Wore:

Dress - Ross $11.99
Boots - Old
Handbag: Gifted
Boots: Gifted
Accessories: LA Lynn's

***All of the outfits worn at the Fashion Showcase were thrifted items that were for sale***

Ok, by the time you see this post it will probably be around noonish or anywhere around lunch time on Monday because all of a sudden I am getting really sleepy and I want to proof-read this post before hitting the "publish post" button. So, for now... I am crawling back in bed for some more Zzzzzz...

To be continued...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, it's lunchtime & I'm baaaaack!!!!
First off... before writing anything else I have to thank you for following & taking the time out to actually comment on my blog. Also, to the on-lookers and spectactors I appreciate you too! Special S/O to all my new followers... 3 more followers and it will be giveaway time!!!! "\(*_*)/"
P.S. It's funny that my daughters know how to thrift & I don't... I get so frustrated and end up leaving the store with NOTHING! I am going to try my hand (again) at thrifting and take the time out to actually learn how to thrift. Especially, since I just found out that every Thursday all women's clothing is an additional 50% off and every Friday a certain color tag is only .99 cents (B & R Thrift Store).
Note to You: I was told by I Goodie 2 Shoes that I suffer from Macy's Madness... y'all already know I luvme some Macy's but if you ask me... I think Patience is Virtue when it comes to thrifting!
Question: If you are a thrifter... tell me how did you get started and what can you recommend and/or suggest me to do when going thrifting???!!!
Peace, Love, & Fashion
Xoxo
  1. I have just recently started thrifting myself and I am hooked. Matter of fact I went to Macy's the other day and could only buy a tube of lipstick and some accessories.
    My tip would be to pack your patience. You will likely go through each piece of clothing on the rack. If it looks too big, ponder whether it can be tailored if it is something that you like. I also make two trips around the store to make sure I didn't miss anything. Lo and behold EVERY time I do this I find something else that I didn't see initially.
    It really is fun. Keep in mind that you may only leave with one thing on a visit and on another you may have 6 things. Go for it. You will be hooked!!!
  2. Thrifting is so fun and addictive! The number one tip for thrifting is time and patience. Also, go without something specific in mind, that way you won't be disappointed if you don't find what you are looking for. Look for items not just by brand name, buy by texture and feel. Also, look in the children's and men's sections because a lot of the ladies clothes get mixed in! Good luck with your thrifting adventures :) Heather
  3. Girl this event is right up my alley! I love fashion shows and thrifting! You picked a super cute dress! I almost NEVER buy pants when thrifting so I go right to the dresses, blazers and coats. I also look at shoes and accessories. Kiah
  5. You absolutely right. It takes patience when it comes to thrifting. When I go thrifting I don't always find stuff. Sometimes its a hit or miss but don't get discouraged. Keep at it.
  6. I went thrifting with a few blog buddies and it was my first time. I enjoyed it I got a great looking lamp sadly the cute clothes were not in my size but I think you have to have patience because you have to go through every piece.
  8. Awe looks like a great event!!!!
    As far as thrifting you have to be patient! I like to concentrate on certain items during each trip. Last time I went it was thicker blazers for fall/winter, and blouses. They didn't have too many blouses so I took a peak at other stuff.
    But you have to have a plan and and patience!
  9. So glad you had so much fun!!! I want to high tail it over to Atlanta and go there...
    Any way my journey with thrifting is when I was a tiny one the thrift store and Walmart were the places I bought my clothes then I got older and I got sucked into the world of mediocre,'let's dress all the same' train of thought, so thrifting was out of the picture(deep down I hated that way of dressing but didn't know how to get out) Then I started watching What Not to Wear and reading blogs and Lookbook and got inspired to give it another go. So I started looking for the less mainstream stuff and started finding objects of coolness(and vintage-ness) and rediscovered who I am stylistically and that's how I got into thrifting.
    Thrifting does take patience but I have found that the best way to tackle all the coolness-to-be-found is to grab anything that catches your eye than to go and widdle down the pile by the fitting rooms. I have found many a cool thing using this method. =)
    By the way you look so cute, you can definitely pull off horizontal stripes! I still can’t get over your hair it's so cool!
  10. Thrift store fashion show?!? Sounds fabulous!
    I'm a thrift store junkie, so I wish I could attend something like this. ;)
    It's funny, I never used to shop at thrift stores unti one year ago when I got laid off. Then, with lack of money, I was forced to shop thrift. I was AMAZED at how much fun it is! And I have found some incredible, awesome steals. Now some of my most favorite clothing items were purchased at thrift stores. :)
    My advice:
    -Have patience. Make sure you aren't pressed for time and just enjoy sifting through everything in the store, because sometimes the most unique items are found in places you least expect! (I once found a size four Prada dress in the men's section!).
    -Go to thrift stores located near upscale neighborhoods. (Most of my Kate Spade bags, Jimmy Choo heels, etc.) came from thrift stores near ritzy neighborhoods. Rich ladies get bored with their clothes quickly, I've learned. Lol.
    -Have fun!! Take a few girlfriends and make a day out of it. That's the best way to do it.
    I hope these helped, even if just a little. ;)
  11. How fun is this!!!!!!!! I so wish I was there. I am an avid thrifter. I am obsessed. You will rarely see me shopping in department stores. Thrifting is easy, it just takes patience. I would to be in the same city so we could go thrifting together!!
  12. personally i think the key to thrifting is spending time while you are there! if you're going do it, just knwo that you're going to spend atleast an hour picking through it all!
    p.s. I love your dress from Ross (i buy so much from ross its so great)
    ^ I guess you could look at it kind of like ross, except more intense, cause you've gotta to pick through alot to get the good stuff!
  19. When I was younger, I wasn't into thrifting, but now, I am a huge fan. I try to make lists so I know what to look for ahead of time. It's important to be patient, try things on, check for flaws, and be open minded. I prefer thrift stores that merchandise by color, style, or size, but that isn't always possible. Also, check back often for new merchandise. Some of my most beloved pieces were found in thrift stores for very low prices.
  25. This event looks so fun! I'm not expert at thrifting I'm just getting the hang of it too. I do know that when you focus on certain items and are patient, it works out.
  26. Thrifting takes patience at first. Once you become a regular, you probably will know the best spots, and just make your rounds & stop-throughs. You can find the smallest thing like a fab pair of shoes to the largest thing, like a gorgeous sofa set. The whole process is endless. And the great thing about it is you can go for that one or two specific things or just go brainless & find a treasure chest of stuff!! I love the fashion show idea!! Kudos to the brain child!! Always remember that someone else's trash is always someone else's treasure. You can also find unused items as well..... Good luck on your future thrifting endeavors!!
  27. I love thrift shopping. I'm a bit weird when it comes to shopping. I'd spend whatever I have on a pair of hot shoes but when it comes to clothes I can't stand it. I pick up a shirt and nearly pass out when I see a $15 dollar price tag. So I'm always looking for a deal. At a thrift shop I always find an awesome deal.
    Now following!!
